Caries is a disease that attacks the hard dental substance, starting with the enamel and than it spreads to the dentin and the cement. The consequences of these disease are softening of the hard dental substance, and if there’s no treatment in due time that will lead to:
- Pulp infection
- Root infection
- Tooth loss

In filling teeth, the decayed material is completely removed (by drilling) and replaced with filling. Contemporary stomatology follows today’s modern technology which offers wide range of quality restorative materials.

One to two decades ago most commonly used dental filling was the metallic filling (amalgam) and the aesthetic demands of the patients were very disappointing, but the contemporary materials meet those demands with great results even beyond their expectations.
In our dental private office we have chosen to work only with “white” fillings. You may ask: “Why not metallic fillings”?
First, the amalgam filling consists of mercury, among other substances. Mercury is toxic and not only for the pulp of the teeth but also for the whole body especially kidneys and liver.
Second, the mercury after some time evaporates and the tooth obtains dark color.
Third, our work experience proves that in more than 80% of the cases under the amalgam filling there can be:
- A secondary cavity
- An infection of the pulp (nerve) of the tooth i.e. pulpitis
- Or a spontaneous necroses of the pulp
Although some dentists argue that the amalgam fillings are the longest lasting, practice proves the opposite. All of this is a result of the bad characteristics of the amalgam such as the high percentage of contraction, which leads to weak adhesion of the amalgam filling to the tooth.
That's why we recommend leave the amalgam in the past where it belongs, and look to the future and the advantages of the new and better materials.
Their well-known publicity in aesthetic dentistry and the advantages that white fillings offer, which can be truly accomplished, has allowed many patients to expect their restorations to be very much alike to their natural teeth.
